FOR SALE : 34 CLOVERWOOD DR. BROCKPORT, NY > SOLD!!!
Updated 09/29/2014. Everything is sold and gone. Craigslist is great, but I'm happy to be done with it for a little while. We are at my mom's for a few days of recovery and visiting then it's off to Hilton Head to ready the boat for departure to St. Croix! It is happening!
There is still a ton of work to do on Lady Valkyrie and to cram all of what's left of our stuff into the boat. It's a large boat, but gets smaller with every piece we put on it. We will need to wait until November 1st to avoid the hurricanes before we can head southeast to the the Virgin Islands.
We don't have jobs lined up yet. I'm going to stay in the National Guard and Ouida has some leads on jobs. My goal is to hand out surf boards to bikini clad women on the beach until I get better job or Ouida beats me into submission. Don't bother betting on that one. We all know which will happen first. After that, I'll be looking for full time computer networking employment. Retirement just means we get to be pickier about where we work. We need to work for a few more years before we can really think about true retirement and sailing for Australia!
Updated 09/29/2014. Our beautiful new lady is called Lady Valkyrie (formerly SiyaSinana). She is an Admiral Executive 40 built in 2007. She was the first of her kind and featured in the January 2008 issue of Cruising World magazine. She's 40 feet long and 24 feet wide. She has three bedrooms which can easily sleep 6 people or more. She has two bathrooms as well. She was made in South Africa and her former name means "We dance with each other" in the Zulu language.
The original owners are very nice, generous people. They live in Buffalo and have customized SiyaSinana with our same philosophy. "We want to live on a boat, but not live like we live on a boat." We upstate New Yorkers suffer enough with snow. We don't want to suffer in the heat too.
The boat has two 30 horse power Yanmar diesel engines which allow the boat to travel at 7 knots (8 mph). The fuel tanks hold 100 gallons of diesel. With a burn rate of about 1 gallon an hour that much fuel should take us about 800 miles without using the sails.
She has a beautiful interior made from African rosewood. For more details about her and lots more pictures, click to see our Lady Valkyrie pages.
We have a desalinater (water maker) on board capable of making 100 gallons of fresh water in six hours. We also have a water tank capable of holding 100 gallons.
We produce our own power with solar panels, a wind generator, and an 8 KW diesel generator. We are off the grid! (to use survivalist/hippie lingo).
